The following is designed to provide a little more information about the holistic therapies. Sometimes you may be unwilling to try something new because you don’t really understand its benefits. I hope this will help:
Hopi Ear Candling
Hopi takes its name from the Hopi Indian tribe who perfected the art of ear candling. Ear candling is used across the world as an effective treatment and is used in mainstream medicine in Germany. Hopi Ear Candling is wonderfully relaxing as well as being effective. It is not at all painful or uncomfortable but rather offers a gentle, warming sensation.
Ear candles are made of linen soaked in beeswax and rolled into an hollow tube. The tapered end of the candle is inserted into the opening of the ear but NOT pushed right in! The other end of the candle is lit and a live flame encourages a vacuum effect. The combination of the warmth and the vacuum encourage wax and debrit to be removed from the ear. However, the vacuum also affects further reaching ‘pipes’ in the upper respiratory tract.
Ear candling is beneficial in treating hay fever, asthma, tinnitus, sinusitis, sore throat, mental clarity, glue ear, deafness caused by wax build up, headaches and of course, stress. Each candle burns for about 15 - 20 minutes and you will also receive a short pressure point head and face massage.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone therapy used in massage dates beyond 3000 years ago in ancient India and China. It is rooted in Native American traditions and beliefs where stones were used in healing rituals during ceremonies in sweat lodges in in medicine wheels. Native Americans believe that stones are sacred as they hold memories and secrets of the universe. It is said that Native American healers would use heated stones to ease pain and discomfort while they would use cold stones to staunch the flow of blood (after giving birth, after conflict etc). The Romans are famed for their introduction of marble roman spa baths and we still continue with their practices in the use of hydrotherapy, saunas, hot tubs and Jacuzzis.
Hot Stone Massage has many wonderful benefits including:
Heated stones warm the skin and relieve muscular stress and tension
Coupled with the massage, there is a wonderful sense of well-being and intense relaxation
The warmth encourages increased blood circulation which will encourage fresh nutrients and blood supply to tissues and soften cellulite
Lymph flow will be encouraged thereby helping to eliminate toxins and waste products from the system
Promotes increased relaxation and the release of helpful endorphins
The heated stones provide a deeper massage without the feeling of ‘being pummelled’. It is believed that one stroke with a stone is worth ten with your hands.
Hot Stone Massage is the most expensive massage that I offer, however, I have great belief in its benefit. It is wonderful in the prevention of arthritic pain, frozen shoulder pain and in the treatment of injuries due to muscle strain. It’s also a very pampering treat, especially when coupled with aromatherapy oils or chocolate indulgence oils!
